Workshop on Export Promotion & Documentation organized at MIA Bhavan, Mohali on 19 November, 2009

A workshop on Export Promotion & Documentation was organized by Mohali Industries Association (MIA) in association with The Energy & Resources Institute (TERI) at MIA Bhawan on 19 November, 2009. The workshop was organized as part of the ongoing SIDBI initiative being supported by TERI, which focuses on market-based development of the cluster through the strengthening of various Business Development Services (BDS) providers.

The participants were welcomed by Mr B.S Anand (President-MIA), following which the   TERI team described salient features of the project and how it will benefit the industry. Mr M.S Dhillon (Joint Director-DGFT, Chandigarh) threw light on Indian foreign trade policies applicable for exports. Mr. Opinder Singh (Asst. Director-EEPC, Jalandhar) spoke on the various government schemes and incentives available for entrepreneurs interested in exports.

Prof. R.K Wadhwa (IIFT, New Delhi) and Mr S.K Pawar (Asst. General Manager-EXIM Bank, Chandigarh) elaborated upon the subject of export documentation. The participants were shown various export documents and provided guidance on how these are to be prepared.

Mr. Sumeet (RM-North, SMERA) presented the benefits of credit rating for SMEs and assured the participants of reduction in loan interest rate of leading banks, if SMEs have a good rating.   An exporter (Mr P.J Singh of Tynor Orthotics, Mohali) shared his experiences and learnings with the participants. He urged fellow-entrepreneurs to pursue exports in order to develop their businesses.

Mr Vivek Malhotra (DGM-SIDBI, Chandigarh) persuaded the entrepreneurs to upgrade their technology from conventional machines to CNC machines and threw light on various SIDBI financing schemes for technological up gradation. He also urged the participants to take maximum benefit of the ongoing TERI project.

The TERI team also requested the participants to register their businesses on the project web portal www.chandigarhbds.com, and to avail the services offered by the portal. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Mr K.S. Mahal (General Secretary -MIA).
