Website Launch Conference at Chandigarh Press Club on 19 November 2009 TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) is facilitating the implementation of a project by SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India) in the Mohali-Panchkula-Chandigarh engineering cluster. The project focuses on market-based development of the cluster through the strengthening of various BDS (Business Development Service) providers. TERI has conducted a mapping exercise of the cluster to obtain a deeper understanding of the dynamics in the cluster, and prepared an action plan for strengthening the BDS providers and establishing economies of scale for their operation. TERI has also set up a dynamic web-site, www.chandigarhbds.com, containing cluster information, details of BDS providers, and information on various project activities. The web portal was formally launched on 19 November, 2009 by Dr. Gunmala Suri, Reader-UBS, Punjab University, at a conference organized by TERI at the Chandigarh Press Club. Dr Suri is a Member of the Cluster Coordination Committee, an advisory committee of the project constituted for proper planning and implementation of the project. During the conference, the project team highlighted the importance of this web portal as a platform to identify, establish and support links between the BDS providers/consultants of the region and engineering enterprises. By registering on the website, the BDS providers and the engineering enterprises can promote their respective businesses. The web portal also offers an array of information resources relevant to micro, small and medium enterprises. The project team urged the engineering entrepreneurs and BDS providers of the region to visit the web portal and register their businesses. Entrepreneurs/ BDS providers may also contact the project team through the portal for more information on the project. |
