Workshop on “Indian Standards-Tool for Quality Production”

A one day workshop on “Indian Standards (ISI)-Tool for Quality production” was organized by TERI under their ongoing project of Mohali-Panchkula-Chandigarh Engineering cluster at Hotel Pearl, Chandigarh on 25^th September, 2009. The workshop was attended by more than 60 delegates from Mohali-Panchkula-Chandigarh Fasteners manufacturing MSMEs.

While addressing the august audience, Mr. K.Sudhakar Rao, Scientist”E”, Head (MDCH-2) BIS, Chandigarh described about BIS achievements for MSME’s in detail. He also emphasized the need to have quality production that can be achieved by conforming to Indian Standards.

Mr. Rajeev Sharma, Director-BIS, Chandigarh spoke about the benefits of BIS certification for fasteners industries and also articulated the procedural aspects to obtain BIS certification. Mr. Amarjit Singh, Director-BIS briefed the audience about ISI specifications relevant to Fasteners industry.

Mr. A.L Aggarwal- President, Chandigarh Industrial Fasteners Association (an  association comprising of more than 250 fasteners manufacturing units) highlighted the importance of quality production and ensured that they will propagate the benefits of BIS certification amongst their association members and induce them to apply for the same.

Mr. Mukesh Gulati from foundation for MSME clusters highlighted the role of Clustering for sustainable development of MSMEs.

Mr. C.R Panesar, Cluster Manager-TERI-SIDBI project gave an overview about the project being implemented by TERI with support of SIDBI to implement Business Development Services in Mohali-Panchkula-Chandigarh Engineering cluster. He stressed upon the prominence of this project as this is the first of its kind initiative for MSMEs of the region. He urged the fasteners entrepreneurs to apply for BIS certification and also committed that the project will provide support and consultancy to MSMEs willing to apply for BIS certification.
