Chandigarh

Chandigarh is the common capital of two neighbouring states—Punjab and Haryana. Popularly known as the ‘City Beautiful’, Chandigarh is a modern city, particularly famous for its architecture and landscape. It has two satellite cities (both of which share a border with it): Panchkula and Mohali. These three cities together form a rough triangular area, known as the ‘Chandigarh tri-city’.

Chandigarh has two industrial estates, Phase-I and Phase-II, separated by a common road. There are about 15 medium to large industrial units located here, including two public sector units. Chandigarh also has nearly 2950 SME units located around the city, of which about 40% are ancillary units producing components for the tractor industry. Other SME units produce industrial fasteners, electrical/ electronic items, machine tools, pharmaceutical, plastic goods, sanitary fittings, steel/ wooden furniture, food products, etc. The total estimated annual output of these industries is about 650 crore rupees.  (www.chandigarh.gov.in).

Mohali

Mohali is a satellite city located to the west of Chandigarh. Officially, it is named Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (SAS Nagar), after the eldest son of Guru Gobind Singh. The industrial area in Mohali was developed in 1971–72, and now comprises eight sectors (Phase I–Phase VIII) that are connected to one other. Over the years the industrial area has attracted world class companies such as Dell, Ranbaxy, Semiconductor Complex Ltd, Quark, ICI Paints, Godrej, HCL, and so on. Its reputation as a home for large, multinational corporations continues to grow. Mohali has around 2000 SME units, mainly manufacturing tractor/auto parts, sheet metal components, railway components, and ancillary items for large industries like Mahindra & Mahindra, Rail Coach Factory (Kapurthala), Sonalika, and Diesel Loco Modernisation Works (Patiala).

Panchkula

Panchkula is a satellite city located to the east of Chandigarh.  Panchkula comprises two industrial areas (Phase-I and Phase-II) and an urban estate. There are about 1300 small-scale industries located here, manufacturing tractor/auto parts and fasteners. These are primarily ancillary units to HMT Ltd Tractors Division, located at nearby Pinjore.
